The ‘St. Mother Teresa Free Food for the Hungry Service, Karwar’, is active since 2017. A total of  350-400 people are served free food every day. The daily operations are assisted by a team of 32 dedicated volunteers. Samson D’Souza is walking in the mother’s footsteps and does everything possible to feed hungry people on the streets.

During accidents, the team reaches out to the injured and gives food, medicine and water. During medical emergencies when there’s a shortage of blood, they find donors for the required blood types. The needy, homeless and the destitute by the road side attended to, and they’re given free food during the day and the also in the night. They’re also regularly given a bath, shaving done, and leave them there because they are comfortable there.

There are two ambulances available, and free services available only to the poor families who cannot afford. There’s also a provision of a deep body freezer, which can store one body. It’s a mobile freezer which can be taken home (and later returned), because some relatives have to travel from
far off places.

St. Mother Teresa Free Food for the Hungry Service, Karwar has come a long way since its inception. Till date they’ve fed a large number of people. Before they used to supply the cooked food in a jeep to the hospital site every day. Later on, they were provided an open space in the civil hospital premises. They’ve built a temporary shed to feed the people visiting there. The ready cooked food is served to the attendants of the patients and most of them come from the far off places and villages in the large Uttara Kannada (U.K) district.
