Karwar: Stany Alvarez, Chairman of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy felicitated.

The Karwar-Ankola Christian forum (KACF) along with Catholic Association Diocese Karwar (CADK) and Karwar Konkani Bhashik Abhimani felicitated Mr. Stany Alvarez. Mr. Alvarez is the Chairman of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy (KKSA), appointed by the Government of Karnataka for a period of three years. The function was held between 6.30-8.30 PM, on October 15 at Hotel Eden, Karwar, Uttara Kannada (U.K) district, Karnataka.
The welcome speech was given by Mr. George Fernandes, President CADK, welcoming all the esteemed guests and dignitaries. Konkani has five scripts and they are: Arabic, Devanagari, Kannada, Malayalam and Roman languages respectively. Dr. Vasant Bandekar spoke about “the importance of Konkani language and there are a total of 42 communities speaking Konkani around Karwar”. Capt. Eddi Viegas, spoke about “the importance of teaching Konkani to the younger generation”.
Stany Alvarez stressed on the need “for uniting all Konkani speakers, promotion of Konkani, and all schools must come forward in promoting the language. Folk programs and Konkani Kala utsav will help the language. He also said that he had greatest respect to the official Kannada language widely spoken in the state”.
A total of 30 people participated. The dignitaries present were: Dr. Vasant Bandekar, Mr. Naveen Lobo (Member, KKSA), Mr. George Fernandes, Capt. Eddi Viegas, Mr. Samson D’Souza (President of Karwar-Ankola Christian forum), CA. Mr. Sanjay Shanbhag, Mr. Ibrahim Kallur, Mr. Vishnu Rane, Mr. Leo Louis, Cdr. A.R.B. D’Souza, Mr. Franky Goudinho and others. The vote of thanks was given by Mr. Samson D’Souza and the program was compered by Mr. Augustine Noronha.
