On reaching Ramgnagar which has a traffic intersection for a national highway (NH 4A), and a state highway (SH 34). The traveller must take a right turn to Dandeli, if travelling from Dharwad. And must go via the roundabout of the equestrian statue of Sh. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue, if travelling from Belagavi side (a.k.aBelgaum). Dandeli is a tourist place which features on the itinerary of every avid traveller, and it lies in northwest Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada (UK) district.

If one is lucky, one might spot and photograph wild animals during a safari or during a drive through a thick forest. And if less fortunate to see wild animals in their natural habitat; there still is consolation, as one can view, take pictures and be mesmerized by the near perfect wall art.

The road route from Ramnagar to Jagalbet on SH 34 has plenty of such art, and one can only be amazed at the skills of the artist; and the fine detail and justice meted out to each piece of art. One can see the national bird peacock with other avian species. Keeping them company are a family of jackals; porcupine; slender loris; lion tailed macaque (LTM) and wild boar all seen in peaceful co- existence. The big animals seen is the heritage animal, the elephant, raising its trunk; a family of bears with cubs; a black panther, a sambhar and the national animal tiger. The English poet, John Keats, words are truly immortalized on this scenic route, “A thing of beauty is a joy forever”
