Khanapur taluk, lies in the south west of Belagavi district in northwest Karnataka. It shares land border with Goa, and lies in the Western ghats. There have been numerous cases of man-animal conflicts, some of them reported and some do not make news.

Ghotagali, a small village with a population of under 1000 souls, lies 25 kilometres from Nagargali. It has regularly been witnessing elephant herds raiding and destroying crops.

A farmer’s paddy fields were trampled upon and the standing crops were destroyed. It has been reported that there has been an increase in elephants  entering the surrounding villages, since the last one month.

The concerned authorities should look into the villagers problems, and help them find lasting solutions.
