India is a huge country from north to south and west to east/northeast. It’s abundantly blessed with flora and fauna; various cultures; people speaking different languages; following different religious customs and traditions, and having wide and varied dietary tastes and preferences. The north-eastern part of India is unique in a myriad ways. The people there have features similar to those from southeast Asian countries. Along with unique good looks, they stand out with their unique culture and behaviour. Both the genders have a sense for fashion and dressing taste, they carry themselves well and dress well to the occasion. They also show interest in football and other endurance sports much different to those from mainland India. Their love of music is legendary, and their food habits makes them misunderstood by people unaware of their culture and traditions. They’re soft spoken and definitely are a well mannered people in the country. They reside in landlocked hilly regions and the geographical region they come from also makes them good mountain climbers. They are self-sufficient in their respective states, but are forced to travel outside for education and employment in the northern, central and southern regions of India. Here they come in direct conflict, as well mannered people are largely misunderstood in our country.

One young boy who left his home state Tripura for further studies to Dehradun, Uttarakhand; and after battling for life has finally breathed his last. A youth who along with his brother were outside and lumpen elements on the street called them names. The sense of honour and one of them who refused to be called names, paid with his life. Promising lives lost anywhere for no reason is distressing to hear. It further gives weightage to the adage, “nice people die and nasty ones go forever”. Those street urchins arrested for the crime they committed will never bring back a lost life. Such fringe elements are known to exist across the length and breadth of the country. But the innocent have to be protected at all costs.

Our central government should make tough rules and laws, so such events do not repeat again. People from mainland India, should also be made aware of the regional diversities that exist in the country. Such criminal acts only further increases the anger and hatred amongst fellow citizens. The union government must go into an awareness overdrive to create awareness of all soft spoken and well mannered citizens, who are largely
misunderstood by the ignorant citizens. And to safeguard regional and national interests, calling fellow citizens funny and derogatory names should be made a punishable offence.
