Dandeli’s Dandelappa Temples

Dandeli is a name hard to miss in the country’s tourist circuit. The Uttara Kannada (UK) district is in northwest Karnataka, and annually visited by large number of people. The entire district lies in the lap of mother nature and is synonymous with scenic beauty.

Dandeli, is named after the presiding deity ‘Dandelappa’, and there are two temples dedicated to him. A visit to Dandeli is complete only if one prays at Dandelappa temple, is a strongly held belief among the locals. Dandelappa lost his life to uphold high moral values and was known for his commitment, integrity and loyalty. A temple dedicated to Dandelappa is visited by devotees from far and wide; a jatra (fair) is held every year and the temples are visited by large number of people from the neighbouring states.

Dandelappa temples: One of the temples can be reached via KC Circle after crossing Patel circle. The other Dandelappa temple is located on the banks of the Kali river at Kerwad- Halmaddi on Dandeli–Haliyal road. The Mirashi family are the official priests of both the temples.

How to reach Dandeli: Different routes to Dandeli via Ramnagar, Haliyal Ganeshgudi and Barchi check post. The other route is via Ilava, close by to Ganeshgudi. The tourist must travel on SH 34 (towards Joida/Karwar) and must take a left turn from Bapeli cross, and travel via the villages of Potoli, Pradhani to reach Dandeli.
